Tu-Yo Afrika

The Tu-Yo Afrika is a variation on the Tu-Yo created for Jean-François Laporte’s sound installation “Khrônos.” The pipe used is wider in diameter, shorter in length, and erected vertically with the latex membrane facing down. A small rubber ball is inserted into the instrument. The compressed air sent through the mouthpiece of the membrane makes the latex vibrate, causing the ball to bounce. A computer “listens” to the result and adjusts the air supply to vary the rhythmic ballet of the ball. (A more detailed presentation of this installation can be found under the Installations tab.)
