Totem on Italian Tour: Workshops, Student Creations, and Laporte / Laudante Duo

Artistic director Jean-François Laporte has been in Italy since May 3 for a 22-day tour taking him to Naples, Sant'Arpino, Latina, Rome, and Turin. A tour carried out in partnership with the collective Napoli Totale Elettronica and the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music in Naples, which is celebrating its Bicentennial this year through the rassegna napoliGROUND (May 9–19).

Workshops and Creations

From May 9 to 12, at the Conservatory's Auditorium Scarlatti, Jean-François accompanies three composition students, Bruno Belardi, Ada Dinacci, and Tiziano Russo, in the creation of works for Babel Table and electronic component. An intensive workshop, Exploring Babel Table, takes place on May 10 and 11 at Ex Asilo Filangieri (Naples), for Conservatory students and doctoral candidates.

Three Evenings in Duo with Andrea Laudante

Three total improvisation concerts for pneumatic instruments and electronics bring together Jean-François and Andrea Laudante, a young Neapolitan artist and winner of the 1st prize at the Totem Électroacoustique competition in 2023:

  • May 13 — Sottoscala 9, Latina
  • May 14 — Metro Core, Rome (with Shahzad Ismaily and Costanza Alegiani, presented by Flaming Creatures)
  • May 21 — CRIPTA747, Turin

Totem Électrique Naples

On May 12 at 6 p.m., at the Conservatory's Sala Scarlatti, the concert Totem Électrique Naples presents, in absolute world premiere, the compositions of students from the Electronic Music Class for the Babel Table, performed by Jean-François himself.

Alveare Concert at Museo Madre

On May 15 at 8 p.m., Jean-François joins Manuella Blackburn and Cedrik Fermont at the Museo Madre as guests of Madre Totale Elettronica, a vast uninterrupted total improvisation session with the artists of Napoli Totale Elettronica.

SPaMEC 2026 Conference

On May 15 and 16, Jean-François delivers one of the keynote addresses at the inaugural edition of SPaMEC (San Pietro a Majella Electroacoustic Conference), two days of conference dedicated to the multiple approaches of contemporary electroacoustic music. He shares the stage with Manuella Blackburn, Cedrik Fermont, and Benjamin Thigpen, his long-standing partner in the duo Rust.

Transmission in Turin

On May 20, Jean-François gives a seminar at the Polytechnic University of Turin on instrument making and engineering in the service of artistic creation, and a masterclass at the University of Turin in Andrea Vale's composition course.
